Lowercase o

The lowercase o belongs to the oval family.
It is a closed counter shape. The goal is a smooth oval, balanced inner space, controlled shade, and clean closure.
The o should not look squeezed or uneven. Keep the movement round enough to read clearly, but still aligned with the Copperplate slant.
Practice slowly and focus on five things:
Use the oval stroke as the base, then refine the closure.
- Begin with a light entrance.
- Keep the oval balanced.
- Shade only the downstroke portion.
- Release smoothly into the curve.
- Close the form cleanly.
If the closure becomes heavy, reduce pressure before the final hairline.
