Lowercase p

The lowercase p belongs to the descender loop family.
It uses a long downward movement and a lower structure that must stay controlled. The goal is a steady shaded stroke, balanced lower space, and smooth exit.
The descender should not pull the whole letter out of rhythm. Keep it aligned with the slant.
Practice slowly and focus on five things:
Keep the long downward movement controlled before working on speed.
- Start with a controlled downstroke.
- Keep pressure steady.
- Move into the descender space cleanly.
- Keep the lower form narrow.
- Finish with a light exit hairline.
If the letter feels too heavy, reduce pressure and check the nib alignment.
