Lowercase q

The lowercase q belongs to the descender loop family.
It begins with an oval body, then moves into a descending stroke. The goal is a balanced counter, a clean descender, and a controlled finish.
The oval and descender must work together. If one part is too large, the whole letter loses balance.
Practice slowly and focus on five things:
Check the oval first, then add the descender without changing the slant.
- Build a balanced oval.
- Keep the counter open.
- Pull the descender along the slant.
- Keep the lower movement controlled.
- Finish cleanly without adding weight.
If the q feels unstable, practice the oval first, then add the descender separately.
