Lowercase d

The lowercase d combines an oval form with a tall shaded stem.
It belongs to the mixed forms because it uses the oval family as a base, then adds an ascender-height stroke. The goal is a balanced oval, a straight stem, and a controlled exit.
The oval should stay stable before the stem is added. If the oval is weak, the whole letter will feel unstable.
Practice slowly and focus on five things:
Build the oval first, then add the tall stroke without pulling the form out of balance.
- Start with a balanced oval.
- Keep the counter open and even.
- Pull the stem down along the slant.
- Avoid making the stem too heavy.
- Finish with a clean exit hairline.
If the stem leans away from the oval, slow down and check your slant before repeating.
