Descender Stroke

The descender stroke builds the descending loop used in letters such as g, j, p, q, and y.

The goal is a controlled shaded downstroke, a narrow loop in the descender space, and a clean hairline return.

Start at the waistline, pull down with pressure into the descender area, release gradually, form a narrow loop, then return upward in a light hairline.

This stroke needs control more than speed.

Focus on six points:

  1. Start at the waistline.
  2. Pull down with steady pressure.
  3. Release gradually before the loop.
  4. Keep the loop narrow and balanced.
  5. Cross the downstroke slightly below the baseline.
  6. Return upward in a clean hairline.

Do not make the loop too wide or balloon-like. Keep the shaded stroke parallel to the slant and the hairline return smooth.
