Lowercase t

Copperplate lowercase t construction steps

The lowercase t belongs to the reverse curve family.

It needs a light main stroke, controlled height, clean exit, and a careful cross stroke. The goal is clarity and rhythm without making the form too heavy.

The t should stay simple. Do not let the cross stroke dominate the letter.

Practice slowly and focus on five things:

Keep the vertical movement clean, then add the cross stroke lightly.

  1. Keep the main stroke light and controlled.
  2. Stay aligned with the slant.
  3. Keep the height consistent.
  4. Add the cross stroke cleanly.
  5. Leave enough space for the next letter.

If the t looks stiff, reduce pressure and keep the exit more fluid.
