Uppercase B

Copperplate uppercase B construction steps

The uppercase B combines a rounded entrance, a shaded main stroke, and two balanced bowl movements.

The goal is to keep the upper and lower parts related without making the letter look crowded. The lower bowl can be slightly stronger, but both parts should feel connected to the same rhythm.

Watch the construction carefully before practicing the full form.

Practice slowly and focus on five things:

  1. Start with a controlled entrance curve.
  2. Keep the main shaded stroke clean.
  3. Balance the upper and lower bowls.
  4. Avoid heavy pressure inside the curves.
  5. Finish with a clean exit.

If the B looks too compressed, open the bowls slightly. If it looks too wide, reduce the curve before adding pressure.
