Lowercase y

The lowercase y belongs to the descender loop family.
It combines an upper movement with a descending loop. The goal is a controlled body, narrow loop, and clean hairline return.
The lower loop should feel connected to the letter, not like a decorative tail added afterward.
Practice slowly and focus on five things:
Connect the upper form into the loop without widening the descender.
- Keep the upper form stable.
- Pull into the descender with control.
- Release before the loop.
- Keep the loop narrow.
- Return with a clean hairline.
If the loop becomes too large, practice the descender stroke again before writing the full y.
