Entrance Stroke + Downstroke
This drill teaches a clean entrance into a controlled shaded downstroke.
Begin with a light hairline along the slant guideline. As you reach the start of the downstroke, increase pressure slowly and smoothly. Do not snap into thickness.
The goal is one continuous movement: thin hairline, gradual pressure, then a steady shaded stroke down to the baseline.
The transition should feel smooth, not like two separate strokes placed together.
Practice this drill slowly and focus on the transition.
Watch for five details:
- Begin with a light entrance hairline.
- Build pressure gradually.
- Keep the shaded stroke parallel to the slant.
- Pull down with even thickness.
- Stop cleanly at the baseline.
The entrance stroke should not wobble. The downstroke should stay even from start to finish.
