Beginner Setup
Beginner Kit
Start with a simple pointed pen setup before changing tools. A consistent setup makes it easier to understand whether a problem comes from movement, pressure, paper, ink, or the nib.
Recommended simple setup
- One comfortable straight or oblique holder
- One beginner-friendly pointed nib
- Smooth paper that does not feather or catch the nib
- Reliable ink with a clean flow
- Printed guide sheets at 100% / Actual Size
Your focus
Keep the paper angle, holder angle, and writing position stable for several short sessions. Change only one material at a time so the result is easier to read.
What to watch
- If hairlines look fuzzy, test smoother paper before blaming your hand.
- If shaded strokes skip, clean the nib and check ink flow.
- If slant changes constantly, slow down and use guidelines.
- If the nib catches, reduce pressure and test paper smoothness.
